Not only the Spanish show- review soon come-, Hirst after dark and a painter winning the Turner Prize- congratulations to R Wright for that- we've now heard that a beautiful Raphael drawing has broken records at Christies. This beautiful drawing of a muse has fetched £ 29.2 million, a historic landmark for the market.
As for the Rembrandt Portrait of a Man, previously invisible for 40 years...that has gone for £20.2 million, just over the figure I thought it would fetch.
My only regret with events such as these is that the art disappears from public view, but not for ever. We'll just have to hope that they are loaned to special exhibitions in the not too distant future.
Above- Raphael's muse meets the art market full on.
