Thank you for this summary David - it is nice to have an appraisal of some of the information presented in the GAP - which whilst being directed at a general audience, also has the caveat of being presented via the perspective of the partner galleries, and hence not an entirely balanced art historical account. I was relieved that for most part, the Raphaels are OK, though the Dulwich Transfiguration needs to be clarified as "after Raphael"

As for co-contributions, I'm not sure I'd have the confidence to assign finite percentages, though as you point out, the literature is often replete with "passages by" type commentary - the literature on the Uffizi Raphael self portrait is spectacularly amusing from this perspective, with consistent disagreement over who did what and when they did it, from the underdrawing up - something which I hope to be covering at 3PP in the near future.

My only wish is that the GAP had a more direct feedback portal, at present you can only feedback informally via their twitter and Google+ accounts.

I've always been a little suspicious of CW's views, after he wrote that funny book saying the Met's La Tour was a modern fake.

Bob, Thanks. That's what I was trying to get across in the earlier (Leonardo Louvre) post- but most people took it as scientist-bashing, which wasn't my intention.

Bendor- Thanks. It would be nice if GAP did come to me, but it would be even nicer if the museum gave some insight into this.

I haven't read CW's book on La Tour and forgery for ages.

Here is another painting of Mars and Venus which interests me https://www.mutualart.com/Artwork/Venus-and-Mars/6E04E3205858E7B5. I think is not too vulgar in its visualizations but still as fantastical. Despite being problematic, the work is pretty romantic as it shows Mars's abundant love for Venus. Moreover, the painter is so detailed in visualizing how Mars admires Venus. We can see Mars is stripping off his sword and war helmet while his shield is worn by Venus as a mirror. What's interesting is we can see two cupids surround those two love birds.
