Stranger and stranger!

There are a couple of vital issues in the post. Firstly the anonymous painting was authenticated as a Cranach by two scholars. Certainly the scholars could have been wrong, but is the court at least hearing the scholars' rulings?

Secondly, French law allows for the seizure of works that are suspected forgeries for investigation without a court judgement. Who approves such seizures? Are the owners compensated?


Yes, I know of that French law which is pretty high-handed. I think they can destroy some art if they think/prove it is a forgery, though I could be wrong.
